The Miami Trace Local School District was formed July 1, 1955 with the consolidation of five local school districts in Fayette County.  The district was named after the Indian trail that ran from Portsmouth to Toledo.  Miami Trace High School opened in the fall of 1962, becoming the first county school system in Ohio to be completely consolidated.  Many changes have taken place in the almost sixty year history of the school district as the district has evolved to meet the changing needs of Miami Trace youth.

Miami Trace High School was opened in 1962 to serve students in grades 9-12.  Extensive renovations to the school were completed in 2010 utilizing interest monies from the Miami Trace Elementary School project.  Upgraded electrical service provided improved lighting, air conditioning in all learning spaces, and a new intercom and phone system throughout the facility.  A partnership with the Great Oaks Career and Technical Institute brought industrial technology programs to the school with 24 state of the art learning modules for the students with such components as aerodynamics, HVAC, robotics and many others.  The former wood and metal shops were completely renovated.  Improvements to the home stadium seating, a re-surfaced track, new asphalt around the site and preparations to the grounds to provide play fields for our students occurred.  A new middle school was completed and ready for students in February 2011which houses 600 students in grades 6-8.  It is situated on site with Miami Trace High School and Miami Trace Elementary School, bringing our entire operations together onto one central campus.  The Miami Trace Preschool, a state licensed preschool, was added in 1994 to serve four and five year-old children.  Currently, Miami Trace Elementary School serves students from preschool age through grade five.  It began operating as a centralized school for our PK-5 students in August 2008.

Miami Trace has experienced many successes in academics, extracurricular activities, and special events.  With all the successes and accomplishments the district has had in past school years, many challenges still lie ahead.  Improvement will be sought in all areas of the district report card.  Curriculum will continue to change to meet new requirements.  Miami Trace will continue implementation of the Ohio Improvement Plan developed by the community and district members.  The goal continues to be to provide an effective educational program to engage every student in becoming a life-long learner and a responsible, productive citizen.  The district exists to serve the students.
