Miami Trace Adopts 2017-2018 School Calendar a Year in Advance
The Miami Trace Board of Education approved the 2017-2018 school calendar at the June 28 board meeting. Moving forward, the goal is to approve a school calendar a full year in advance. So, in the spring of 2017, the Board of Education will approve the school calendar for 2018-2019. This will be a big help to our community and staff when making vacation plans, etc.
Changes to be noted include:
1) The start of the school year is moving up a week. Students will return on August 16, 2017. This will allow us more instruction time as we prepare our students for testing. The reason behind this decision is based upon the state testing windows. As you know, this is always subject to change and we will continue to monitor any updates provided by ODE.
2) The end of the school year is moving up a week. The last day for students will be May 16, 2018. With the earlier start, we are able to complete testing and end the school year a week earlier. This will assist with having too much time at the end of the school year and trying to keep students motivated after testing. The last day for staff will be May 18, 2018.
3) Graduation will no longer be scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. Graduation will be May 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Having graduation a week earlier will allow families to have the entire Memorial Day weekend for family activities, without the disruption of the graduation ceremony in the middle. The decision was also made to move graduation to Saturday at 11:00 AM to avoid the afternoon heat that is often associated with an outdoor graduation.
