Elementary Curriculum Instructional Services--Amy Boston, Director
The foundation for our children’s education is established in elementary school. The staff at Miami Trace Elementary School strives to provide all children with an effective, standards-based education. Instruction is based on the Ohio Academic Content Standards, which have been developed for all core subject areas in grades K-5. Students receive instruction in the following subject areas: reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science/health, art, music, and physical education.
The MTES instructional staff uses data in order to identify students who may need additional instructional support or enrichment. Collaborative Intervention Teachers provide instructional support and enrichment based on students’ needs. Title I teachers provide extra support primarily in the area of reading with some focus on mathematics. In grades 3-5, Core Subject Specialists provide instructional support with a focus on Ohio Achievement Assessment preparation. Special education is provided for students who are identified as needing an Individualized Education Plan. Our gifted education program begins for qualifying students in grade three. All of our support teachers work in conjunction with the regular classroom teachers in order to closely monitor the progress of our students.
Technology is a critical component of our instruction at Miami Trace Elementary School. Every classroom has a SMART Board, which is an interactive whiteboard that allows teachers and students to basically view and interact with what is on a computer screen. Many of our textbook programs include an electronic resource that teachers use to instruct students using the SMART Board. Computers can be found in every classroom. We are also fortunate to have a computer lab in our media center giving teachers the opportunity to instruct a technology-based lesson to an entire class of students.
Parental involvement and support is critical in the elementary grades. Whether it is volunteering here at school or helping your student read or practice skills at home, we appreciate what you do to help your child. Pacing guides, documents that show the yearly plan for instruction for all subjects, are currently being revised and will be available on this website in the near future. These guides identify all of the skills that will be instructed during the school year.
It is the goal of the Miami Trace Elementary staff to provide the best possible educational experience so that our students can become successful, independent, productive citizens.
