The Miami Trace Local School District was formed July 1, 1955 with the consolidation of five local school districts in Fayette County.  The district was named after the historic Indian trail that ran from Portsmouth to Toledo.  Miami Trace High School opened in the fall of 1962, becoming the first county school system in Ohio to be completely consolidated.

Many changes have taken place in the fifty plus year history of the school district as we have evolved to meet the changing needs of Miami Trace youth.  Miami Trace High School was opened in 1962 to serve students in grades 9-12.  In 1988, Bloomingburg School was converted to an all-district junior high with a comprehensive program for seventh and eighth grade students.  In the fall of 2008, a brand new Miami Trace elementary was opened, serving all of the kindergarten through grade five children of the district.  The opening of the state-of-the art building meant closing and eventual demolition of many old facilities throughout the district.  Miami Trace Junior High in Bloomingburg was again reconfigured to house the district’s sixth grade students.  This change in Bloomingburg will be temporary because in August 2008, voters in the Miami Trace district approved a bond issue to construct a new Miami Trace Middle School set to open during the 2010-2011 school year.

Miami Trace has experienced many successes in academics, extracurricular activities, and special events over the past several school years.  With all the successes and accomplishments the district has had, many challenges still lie ahead.  Improvement will be sought in all areas of the district report card.  Curriculum will continue to change to meet new requirements.  Miami Trace will continue implementation of the strategic plan developed by the community and district members.  The goal continues to be to provide an effective educational program to engage every student in becoming a life-long learner and a responsible, productive citizen.  The district exists to serve the students.
